The RiverDogs are nationally recognized as one of the top organizations in professional sports, gaining notoriety for unique promotions, outrageous food and beverage items, and excellent customer service. The RiverDogs strive to provide a diverse fanbase with a memorable and highly entertaining experience at each of its 70 home games and many other events at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in downtown Charleston.
The major departments within the organization include ticket sales, promotions, marketing, special events, merchandising, food and beverage, community relations, and media relations. The RiverDogs have a strong tradition of hiring from within, with four of our current full-time staff members starting as interns.
The RiverDogs offer several full-time internships, which start in mid-March and go through the end of August. These are unpaid positions, which can be completed for college credit. Housing is provided, if needed, on a “first come, first serve” basis. These internships include long hours, typically from 10am-11pm on game days, 10am-5pm on non-game days, and other events as assigned. These internships are designed to provide interns with insight into the entire scope of a minor league baseball operation.
Departmental InternshipsThe RiverDogs hire a number of interns into hands-on positions throughout the operation that pair interns with full-time staff members. Each intern will be exposed to all aspects of the operation, including a focus on ticket sales, yet will focus most effort on one of the following departments:
- Merchandise Internship
- Promotions/Fan Experience Internship
- Community Relations/Customer Service Internship
- Special Events Internship
- Ticket Services/Box Office Internship
- Social Media/Marketing Internship
- Video Production Internship
The RiverDogs hire several interns whose roles are not department-specific, but vary across the organization. These interns rotate between departments and responsibilities throughout the season.
Gameday Internship Opportunities
The RiverDogs also offer less time-demanding internships that focus on in-game presentation and fan experience. These positions start in mid-March and go through the end of August, are unpaid, and typically require hours of 4pm-11pm on home game days only. These opportunities are perfect for students hoping to gain initial exposure in minor league baseball, while pursuing other interests/opportunities during the day.
