ST. PAUL, MN May 16, 2017
That’s right, the little team that could is turning 25 this year. Over that time the St. Paul Saints have seen nearly 6.5 million fans enter the gates, 117 players have had their contracts purchased by Major League organizations and 21 have reached the ultimate goal of the Major Leagues. Most of all, however, countless memories and laughs have occurred during that time and as the Saints get set for season three at CHS Field they roll out an opening homestand full of promotions that are newsworthy and from a galaxy far, far away.
The Saints open the season with a four game series against the Gary SouthShore Railcats beginning on Thursday, May 18 at 7:05 p.m. The Saints have Turned the World on With a Smile for 25 years and at CHS Field Love is All Around. As we enter our Silver Anniversary it appears as though We’re Gonna Make It After All as we pay tribute to Mary Tyler Moore. The first 6,000 fans that enter CHS Field will receive a tam, the iconic hat Moore threw in the air at the end of the opening sequence. At the end of the second inning a very special Saints version of the Mary Tyler Moore open will play on the video board and when the tam is thrown in the air on the video the 6,000 fans will do the same. Prior to the game nearly 70 members of the four local TV stations will be honored, a tribute to Moore’s profession as an Associate Producer and then Producer of WJM, as they will take the field. Former WCCO news anchor, and two-time Peabody and Emmy Award winner Don Shelby, along with Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, will throw out the ceremonial first pitches.
Rev up your engines, throw on your leather jackets and chaps and tie on your favorite bandana because on Friday, May 19 at 7:05 p.m. it’s Harley Night presented by St. Paul & Wild Prairie Harley-Davidson. Prior to the game a parade of 60 Harley riders will take a lap around the warning track along with a St. Paul Police Motorcycle Unit. Also, the first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a Harley-Davidson/St. Paul Saints bandana. It’s also an Xcel Energy Friday Night Fireworks featuring the music, of what else on Harley Night, Punk Rock. You will definitely get Unknown Pleasures with our choice of songs, but Walk Among Us on this night because Saints games are anything, but Generic, it’s always a Funhouse.
Don’t be the Last Jedi in the gate on Saturday, May 20 at 7:05 p.m. or you will miss our Star Wars night presented by Pizza Ranch. Characters from the Star Wars franchise will be on hand to teach young Jedi’s how to use their lightsaber prior to the game. Those purchasing the special ticket package will have the opportunity to learn how to use the Force and fend off the Dark Side with special training in The Minnesoyta Lawn area, located beyond the left field wall. Put on your best island shirt as we kick back and relax on Treasure Island Resort and Casino Saturday.
The barking you hear won’t just be coming from the Chuck & Don’s Dog Park, but from all over CHS Field during Dog Day presented by Chuck & Don’s on Sunday, May 21 at 5:05 p.m. This is the game to bring your favorite canine to the ballpark, but one of you must be on a leash at all times. Prizes will be awarded throughout the evening for best dressed dog, best dog trick, owner that looks most like their dog and much more. Following the game kids run the bases and get team autographs after the game on Select Heartland Chevy Dealers Family Sunday.
So there it is, the first homestand of season number 25. It’s Time You Started Living and Use the Force to join us in 2017. So Leave Your Mark, with your HOG not your Dog, and bring the entire family out for the Opening Homestand of our Silver Anniversary Season.
